LARGEST PEARL IN THE WORLD

800 Year Old (Largest) Pearl on the World's Market To be Sold

I know I was saying that it gets tiresome just wading through story after story about how this is the biggest and that is the largest and it's all set for Dubai, but this is truly eye-catching.

According to this, the 800-year-old pearl will be auctioned off and from what has been reported, the previous owner's list reads like a who's who and includes Chinese emperors, Persian kings, the grandson of Genghis Khan, and the famous Venetian adventurer Marco Polo.

It is not the biggest, that honour goes to the 9.45-inch Pearl of Allah, which is the world's largest. It was found by a diver off the Philippine island of Palawan in 1934 and is stored in a museum in that country.

If you want to bid, it's expected to fetch $8 million. The pearl measures 79 millimeters by 41 millimeters by 34 millimeters. It is the owner's wish that the pearl be renamed Abu Dhabi Pearl but the final decision will lie with whoever buys it
